No way, Segway!

Spacing Wire » No way, Segway!
As much as I think Segways are hotness, they’ve been around what, since 2001? And I’d hate to have to share the sidewalk with even one of these. It’s official - no Segways on Toronto sidewalks.

OkCupid! Politics Test
Yes I know, it’s one of those online quizzes. I am like Hillary Clinton - Social Liberal and Economic Liberal. It makes me a socialist. “You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.” There’s a neat function where you can see who voted for bush or kerry based on where they fall on the political spectrum.

Everything tells me that using all your lifelines and going against the audience on a $300 question is going to go astray, but the end is priceless.

Free Broken Social Scene

Free Download Single of the Week
If you use the iTunes Music Store, the free single this week is Broken Social Scene - Ibi Dreams of Pavement from their new album. Nice. (Note, I can’t get this to be free for me… working on it).

I am going Apple crazy. 1-2-3-4-5-6-Switch.

Okay seriously, why isn’t anyone bloody online? My Apple lust has gone through the roof and I have no one to talk to about it. So instead, you get this pretty old blog post.

I wrote at the beginning of September (I think) why then was the best time to buy a new Mac (iBook spec bumps, Tiger, free iPod, etc etc.). But today I am seriously considering how much in debt I can afford to go.

If you’re like me (chances are you’re not), you’ve been reading the wild speculation of what Apple would announce today at its Steve Jobs keynote in San Jose. And it’s all done.

On the block:
* A new thinner redesigned iMac, with built in wireless, bluetooth, dvd burners, iSight webcam, and remote all standard in 17″ and 20″ configuration. This is a premium box.
* The new thinner redesigned iPod, with video playback, 30Gb and 60GB, wider screen, 30% battery boost and Nano looks.
* The new iTunes 6, with a video store - buy music videos and episodes of shows like Lost and Desperate housewives for $1.99. It keeps track of your videos too. Unfortunately, the new iTunes is not any thinner.

Now, I love my 4G 20GB iPod with the non-colour screen, named bennypod. He’s done me quite well and still kicking well. Radiocasting to my car stereo via the iTrip has been heavenly. And bennybook has been my best friend, travelling with me at just 4.9 lbs everywhere I go. Sex appeal aside, Apple products are amazing machines that have some of the best industrial design and user-experiences I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy. When Apple comes recruiting at UW on Monday I think I’d really like to try to work there.

I’ve got my copy of iTunes 6 (didn’t iTunes 5 just come out last month?), and I have to pass on the iMac until I graduate (though I will buy one). I’m eyeing the new 60GB iPod for now. And to think… I was actually considering getting a Nano. Wouldn’t I have felt silly.

The lust continues with the new iPod ad. Of course, if you want one of those old boring non-video iPods, I hear they’re all reduced price at the Apple Store.

For the Apple geeks in the crowd - Engadget LiveBlogs the Keynote speech.

[update] On a second reading I sound pretty excited huh? Why is it no longer possible for me to be excited about non-apple products? Their marketing has sucked me in bad.

Spadina Extension

TTC Spadina Subway Extension

The TTC and City of Toronto are doing an Environmental Assessment Study to find the best alignment and station locations for a proposed subway extension, from Downsview Station via York University to Steeles Avenue.

I took a course on EAs last term. I think it would be cool for York to have a subway station. Now just send a subway route from Finch Station to Pacific Mall.
