Picking up the 15 Frosh

Lectures begin today for the Fall 2005 term here on campus. It seems like everyone’s been aching to get back to class. It’s funny to see all that energy and excitement, and to be in the middle of it all, but to not be going to any classes.

The first week of my research assistantship was slow and uneventful. Research work is laaaaid back. It did give me lots to time to take part in Engineering Frosh week. I remember looking as lost as these kids did. It’s like watching a thousand lost puppies stumbling around campus. Work is so flexible, I’m going to pick up some part time as a first year TA, and maybe a campus rec referee too!

This beginning of term means quite a few things. Lots of fresh faces. This being Waterloo, a pretty face really does stand out… I’m not too sure whether that’s good or bad.

Co-op students experience this “off-stream” phenomenon, where you can have friends in the same program that you only see for two terms in five years. Working here, I get to hang with a lot of friends I wouldn’t otherwise get a chance to see.

The campus itself is changing quite a bit. All these students are experiencing the new online co-op system for the first time. My term had to live through a lot more bugs than you guys. The system sucks, but imagine how awful it was four months ago.

The DC library study hotspot is now open after a summer of renovations. It’s the only place on campus anyone would ever dress up to go to.

And the SLC now has a brand new Tim Horton’s. This is major news! The lineup at lunch was quite long, and since it’ll be open 24 hours, you can expect me to be there quite a bit this term.

Now as long as I never run out of liquor, I just may make it through the next three and a half months.

Picture to be updated later. This was Canada Day at Ashbridges Bay Park.
