“so bright! my eyes! augh!” or “c-styles.”

apparently my intense web design color schemes are tough on the eyes. they’re too bright! too loud! help! there are wolves after me!

hrm, i definately don’t see wild colors escaping from my sense of style though. so, i’d better reconsider hosting house parties, when i eventually live in my own house. i don’t want to blind my guests with my personal style after all.

i’ve been watching a lot of trading spaces (fun designs)/while you were out (clever personalized designs)/much in your space (just really, really bad designs)/decorating challenge (more like what i’d be able to do. cheap canadian budget is good). i’ve been thinking about how i’m going to interiorly decorate. i’ve been planning and dreaming up my designs.

my personal preference for different styles changes with the seasons, but right now, for me, i’m into the fall colors. the browns, oranges and reds. likely the same i was feeling last november when i chose the last hiyo.org main page color scheme.

back in high school, i was into the monotone/silver/metallic look. i think i’ve definately moved past that. i’ve also moved past the stage when i thought ikea stuff looked good. but i figured an easy on the eyes greyscale layout would be an appropriate change for a while for the main page.

i think finding a interior look is easy enough. the hard part is justifying spending the cash, when furniture as functional, though completely ugly and completely made of plastic can be purchased at a fraction of the cost at a walmart or ikea. we’ll see how i do.

or maybe i’ll just use blue milk crates for everything.

Hallowe’en Teaser

A small hint of what my halloween costume was. More photos to come once I have the time to create more posts and upload the files!

hosting is fun.

In about a week, it will have been one year since hiyo.org has actually starting paying for hosting. That introduced an entirely new level of potential that could be created at this humbe web address. Some things that have come and gone:
- Moveable Type: enough reason in itself to pay for webhosting.
- Forum: it’s still there, but no one uses it. MT commenting killed the pantie rantie.
- CGI-Scripts: I wrote a fun birthday card webpage for Charlotte. It’s still online, and she thought it was pretty cool. Thanks everyone.
- Webspace!: We can actually host files! Like homemade graphics, music, videos or whatnot. We haven’t really done that, but we could.
- Email: I think eugene is the only one that uses a hiyo.org email address, but I haven’t had any complaints about it in a while, so I think everything is good.

What does the next year of webhosting have in store for us here? I don’t know. Any ideas? Comments on the first year of hosting? It’s an amazing deal in my eyes. Annually, hosting and the domain name costs me about $35 USD a year. I think it’s worth it. But we can do a lot more to make use of what we pay for.

If there aren’t any issues, I’ll renew the hosting contract this week for another 12 months.

Update: I’ve tweaked the main page of hiyo.org. Check it out: hiyo.org. It’ll update everytime a blog of hiyo.org gets updated. Actually, it just pulls the latest published entry off each different blog every time it’s loaded. It’s the only bookmark you need!

My New Address!

I’ve packed up shop. Break out your Palm Pilots, you’ll need new contact information for me.

If I haven’t been posting much before, I don’t see what will get me to post any time soon.

It’s midterm week for me! I’ve officially moved out of my house and into the library. I’m actually studying now, which is something new and interesting. And as a result, I’ve been separating myself from sources of distraction (TV, games, sports, my bed, whatnot) and armed with a couple text books and a lot of loose-leaf paper, cozied up into a study carrol at one of the university’s libraries.

I’m now pumped on spending about seven times as much time thinking about school and my studies, by spending twice as much time on campus.

But I don’t expect any sort of increase in productivity to last long. I’m going to bring my laptop to the 8th floor tomorrow. If wireless internet works, I don’t think I’d be able to keep myself from killing time somehow, several times an hour. At one point, that’ll mean some weblogging.

I hear the rest of the world that doesn’t revolve around us engineers will be having social lives this week. Must be nice…

thanks

Or rather, 10 things that are making me happy right now:

Videogames - I just got Madden for the cube. I love my little 8000 cubic centimeters of gaming bliss. And I have to note, that using a GBA to pick plays is one of the sexiest ideas around.

My new Compy - It’s cute, and portable, though it’s really being a networking bitch. However it hasn’t exploded or caught on fire yet like my last computer, and I’m pretty thankful for that.

Internet - I’m a tech head. My life would be very different if I had to rip open a book to find a recipe, wait for the weather network to tell me what the weather would be in my area, or walk around campus to gauge user opinions on the new star wars game. It’s one of those things that have truly changed the way I run my life.

Turkey! - Turkey is tasty. It also apparently makes loose lips, which in turn develops interesting dinner conversation. I think I have to eat Hitoshi. Turkeys are cute too. The turkey at the petting zoo by my house tried to escape on Friday. Apparently he could feel the public eye roasting him at 350 C for 6 hours.

University - Although it’s pretty draining, and the town is pretty boring, I think I’ll really appreciate these few years of my life somewhere down the line. Today I read an ad in the paper that the IAD now has a brand new videogame development degree. That made me cry. AI frequently ponder how an engineering degree could get me a foothold in the industry, though it’s more wishful thinking than anything.

Ball - The Raps are starting up soon, and like every season, I have undisputable Purple Fever. I think I’m going to like Chris Bosh. If only the stupid team could actually win any games. But i’ll be there cheering regardless. My class ball team is starting to learn how to play together. We have a game next Sunday right before my five midterms. Maybe we’ll win a game for once.

My boys - Err, i mean my buddies. Walking around aimlessly downtown seems a lot less boring when you keep good company. And some lighthearted debating on keeping it real in the t-dot that never really went anywhere was a pretty entertaining way to relax from the routine.

My girlie - Who knew that shopping for groceries could be as much fun as preventing an alien race from destroying earth? I never would have thunk it. Even the most stupid stuff is fun to us. Heck, she even enjoys it when I explain the Star Trek and Star Wars universe to her. Ka’plah!

Toronto - I miss it here. Although I haven’t really done any urban/suburban exploring in a while, there’s just a lot more energy here, that I don’t think I would be able to survive outside a major metropolitan area. There’s just so much to enjoy, from the public parks, to the fine arts.

The parents - My parents probably get as much respect as they deserve for all the work they do, but rather than be the kid who idolizes their parents for anything they do, it’s pretty cool trying to make them feel like they’re your closest friend. At the least I hope that they’re proud of their kids and all that.

It doesn’t take a Thanksgiving Weekend for me to conjure up these thoughts, but I figured it would make for a nice themed post.
