BDay Madness

Toe, Eugene and Janice came out to celebrate their BDays in Waterloo last weekend. Here we are rockin’ out at Red Lobster. A lot of cracker gramps gave our crew some stares, and we threw those pointy lobster forks at them.

minidisco!

minidiscs are a portable music format, where tiny 2.5 inch re-writable discs hold cd quality music and can be played in any minidisc player. the discs and players are incredibly portable which makes them one of the best ways to cart around music. a usb MD player can be fetched for less than $150 CDN right now, which maked them the best value for bringing lots of music around with you (CD or mp3 copies), wherever you may go.

their battery efficiency is unparalleled, and blank discs be be found for about 3 bucks if you know where to go (even cheaper in asia!).

Infact, MDs are so great that every single member of hiyo.org has owned a minidisc player for at least a couple years. However, despite the MD’s great versatility and ease of use, the dozen or so people I know that use MDs only create minidiscs for themselves, of their favorite tunes.

Also, despite our mutual love for hiyo.org, none of us have quite the same musical tastes. So here I propose that each member of hiyo.org participate in an MD exchange. It’s a fun idea, where each of us creates a 74 minute minidisc, of some really hip tunes that aren’t quite mainstream and you probably would never find on the billboard 100.

These discs would be distributed between us minidisc users, and almost instantly, good music can be shared rather than limited to one user’s ears.

And I guess if you don’t like the disc you get in the mail, you could always erase it and fill it with the latest britney spears.

Frosh Week

These are the scary ones. Edcom runs Eng. Frosh Week. We had to impress them the last day to convince them we should win the week. My group wasn’t even close.

funk advanced.

I finished my first week back to class. Feeling pretty comfortable in this whole mech. eng environment. Maybe I actually will like doing this the rest of my life.

I was a frosh leader to all the new engineering frosh here at the ‘loo. Maybe I gave the impression that class was the most exciting thing to do on campus (it’s pretty close), but sadly I have too much fun in class.

The froshies were a blast. Eng. frosh leaders are totally jokes. You get the nerdy-butt ones that are doing it to put on their resumes or whatever. They never get into the spirit. There are the ones who like to pick on the young ones. They took it a little too seriously and developed some sort of superiority complex, which they never seemed to justify. And then there were the ones who were there to party. I had a rockin’ good time, though I didn’t get a single number of any 17 year olds. But oh my, they can be pretty when they’re young. Oh, and engineers like to drink alot.

I’ve started reminicing from edge 102’s top 1002 songs, played back in ‘99. Rediscovering my love for 90’s and 80’s rock-out music. Who needs this new age pop stuff?

Figure from my childhood, Gordon Korman (Canadian young readers author) is signing at the Chapters in town in a couple weeks. I’m so there.

After stressing for the past two weeks, I’m finally settled in, and I’m ready for any antics. Any takers?

I’m a laptop man. Find me WiFi’ing it up on campus hotspots. Or playing Tactics Advance.
